Baldwin Wallace University is seeking a Benefits Manager to join our Human Resources team. This is a key role for the University as we modernize and strengthen our benefits programs to better serve our employees and support Building What's Next – BW's next chapter in its 180-year history.
The Benefits Manager will not only handle the day-to-day administration of benefits and leaves of absence but will also play a critical role in analyzing and improving our benefits package. This is an opportunity for a benefits professional who enjoys both hands-on work and strategic problem-solving, and who wants to make a tangible impact on employees and the University. This position reports to the Vice President of Human Resources and is primarily on-site in Berea, OH, with some opportunity for remote work.
What You'll Do
The following is not a complete list of all duties assigned to the position:
Administer health, welfare, and retirement benefits programs, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Manage the leave of absence process, including FMLA, disability, ADA, and workers' compensation.
Partner with HR leadership to evaluate and recommend improvements to plan design, contribution levels, and retirement plan features.
Research and analyze complex benefit issues and assist in developing cost-saving and efficiency recommendations.
Support the annual open enrollment process, partnering with outside consultants as needed.
Serve as the go-to resource for employees, providing clear guidance on benefits and leave programs.
Ensure compliance with federal and state requirements and maintain accurate documentation.
Provide reporting and analysis to support decision-making and the University's Transformation Action Plan.
What We're Looking For
3-5+ years of experience in benefits administration, including leaves of absence.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
Experience with medical, ancillary, and retirement plans (403(b)/401(k)).
Self-insured plan experience preferred but not required.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex benefits issues and recommend improvements.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
A service-oriented approach with the ability to build strong relationships with employees and vendors.
