REMOTE WORK NOTICE:  ARA’s Corporate office is in Albuquerque, NM, however this position is available for remote or hybrid work consideration or at any of our division locations across the United States.

Applied Research Associate’s, Inc’s. (ARA) Corporate Benefits and Compensation Specialist is a key member in our mission to offer valuable programs which sustain, protect, and enhance our employee-owner’s lives now and in the future. As ARA continues to grow, this critical position will work to enhance and carry out a company-wide compensation and benefits strategy as a key member of the vibrant Corporate HR Team. Benefits Administration

  • Administer assigned benefit plans, including managing employee eligibility and/or contribution level, ensuring accurate enrollment of employees, and their dependents, maintaining proper documentation, etc.
  • Assist HR Team and employees seeking information and guidance on various benefits plans and options available, as well as educate employees concerning benefits policies, procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local legislation.
  • Develop group and individual benefit resources and briefings.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve issues or problems related to an employee's benefit enrollment.
  • Partner with HRIS team in the administration of benefit platform in UKG.
  • Develop and maintain benefits procedures, policies, reporting and resources to facilitate the enrollment process and the administration of the benefit plans.
  • Prepare benefit education material, required reporting and other materials as necessary.
  • Inform and educate HR Team on benefit and retirement plan regulations and trends

Compensation Program

  • Responsible for coordinating the salary administration process, determining relative market value for all new jobs (with input as needed), and actively participating in compensation program development activities.
  • Partner with HRIS team to maintain accuracy of all job data housed in the HRIS.
  • Consult with managers in understanding compensation philosophy.
  • Research and audit regulatory compliance according to policy.
  • Evaluate all new jobs and internal promotion or reclassification requests.
  • Model and calculate impact of salary increase projections.
  • Work with consultant to develop new salary ranges annually.
  • Participate in and analyze results of salary surveys annually.
  • Design and generate reports from the HRIS to meet customer needs.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new compensation plans, processes, and communication tools.


Corporate Benefits and Compensation Specialist Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management (or related field) or equivalent experience
  • Seven to nine years relevant HR experience, specifically in a compensation and/or benefits-related role
  • Solid networking and research abilities
  • Demonstrated success administering and/or implementing a corporate compensation and benefits program
  • Must be customer service focused and have excellent time management and project management skills
  • Must be proactive and well organized, and have ability to prioritize work
  • Requires ability to
    • communicate exceptionally well (both verbal and written),
    • work collaboratively with team members, and on an individual basis with minimal supervision,
    • build relationships and offer solutions through creativity and flexibility,
    • research and analyze various types of data and information,
    • objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues,
    • make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation, or government law, and
    • advise management on benefits and compliance issues
  • Intermediate skill level in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with and ability to effectively work in HR Information Systems
  • Experience with and ability to effectively develop and deliver quality presentations and trainings to small and large groups

Corporate Benefits and Compensation Specialist Preferences

  • HRCI, WorldatWork or other related Certification (ex: PHR or SPHR, CCP, CBP).
  • Experience in compensation and/or benefit strategy development.
  • Experience working for government contractors.
  • Experience with Employee Stock Ownership Plans.
  • Knowledge of/experience with UKG Pro, HRIS software.
