The University of Arizona Division of Human Resources invites experienced HR practitioners to apply for your next career as the Director of Human Resources at the College of Medicine-Tucson. As a skilled leader on the University of Arizona Health Sciences campus, you will build and develop relationships with Deans, Directors and other College leadership, Office of General Council, and Banner University Medical Center - Tucson partners. This role is responsible for supporting and implementing (HR) strategy, policies, programs, and support activities in recruitment, compensation, performance management, benefits, employee relations, organizational development, and workplace investigations for the College of Medicine-Tucson Medicine Administration. This position will also oversee compliance and reporting on HR metrics such as affirmative action program data, talent acquisition data, compensation data, and employee relations trends. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources Division.

A preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the dynamics and complexity of relationships between medical school/university, faculty practice plan and hospital/health system; demonstrate knowledge and application of employment law and hiring, employee relations, compensation, and employee retention; exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to create trust-based connections with clients and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Lead the implementation of key HR organizational strategies, working with leaders across the College and its clinical partners.  Provide on-site professional, specialized, and strategic human resources expertise in alignment with Arizona Board of Regents, HR Division, and University policies, practices, and strategic direction.  Develop, interpret, communicate and administer UA policies related to faculty employment and interpretation/application of Banner Academic Affiliation Agreement and employment aspects of the College’s clinical partners. 
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, agreements, procedures and external regulations relating to faculty and staff employment, including affirmative action/equal employment opportunity policies.  Function as an internal consultant and manager in the areas of employee relations, performance management, coaching, and talent management and employee separations.  Coordinate with HR Division leadership regarding responses to and investigations of complex and sensitive employment issues.  Investigate circumstances surrounding workplace complaints such as discrimination, harassment, and workplace safety violations. and provide solutions to ensure the application of appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure efficient and effective organizational design by directing the development of short- and long-term strategic recruiting and compensation plans based on short- and long-range staffing goals.  Ensure plans align with the overall college strategic plans for both current and projected future growth. Work directly with HR Recruitment and Compensation units in structuring both employment and compensation offers for all faculty and staff to ensure salary equity and competitiveness throughout the College, in compliance with University policy.  Create retention and engagement strategies to ensure a high-performance culture and minimize turnover.
  • Manage a team of human resources professionals to ensure implementation of HR best practices organization wide. Oversee compliance and reporting on HR metrics such as affirmative action program data, talent acquisition data, compensation data, and employee relations trends.
  • Participate in the development and revision of University policies and procedures, and provide advice regarding use and implementation.  Expand, strengthen, and grow alliances to achieve Faculty Affairs and Office of Human Resources strategic outcomes.  Collaborate on a regular basis with the Office of the General Counsel, Disability Resource Center, and Office of Risk Management and Safety in employment matters.  Perform special assignments as directed by the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources or other members of senior management.
