Standard Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the day-to-day operations of the Calgary and Yellowknife Office. They will work as a strategic partner to the Director of Human Resources in all things people related and provide coaching and direction as required.

Essential Responsibilities

• Delivery of various human resources programs including talent and performance management, compensation, recruitment, onboarding and development
• Maintains personnel files and HRIS system with accuracy and diligence for the Calgary and Yellowknife office
• Analyzes space utilization and recommends revisions as needed; plans and directs office moves and renovations
• Serves as liaison with building maintenance contractors; responsible for physical operation of facility
• Encourages new ways to look at processes and issues
• Prepares and administers annual budgets and assists the firm in meeting its expense objectives
• Participate in termination processes as required
• Coordinate yearly HR events (Flu Vaccinations, Staff Appreciation Week, Take Your Kids to Work Day, Annual Year End Party etc.)
• Floater Legal Assistant supervision
• Liaise with staff on various HR issues including policies and procedures
• Promotes staff communications and a positive work environment
• Scheduling; process time-off requests and coordinate assistance to ensure workflow is equitably distributed for lawyers when staff are absent or when overflow is required for the Calgary and Yellowknife office
• Some travel is required
• Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years HR experience, with a minimum of 5 year in a leadership role in a professional services firm (legal preferred)
• Excellent interpersonal skills and exemplary written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional problem solving and decision making skills
• Ability to exercise a high degree of discretion and judgment
• CPHR Designation considered an asset but not required
• Bachelor of Law (LLB) considered an asset but not required
• A collaborative team player and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organization
• An approachable leader with a diverse, but people focused background
• Proven ability to prioritize and manage competing demands with a high level of attention to detail and accountability
• An advocate for firm’s culture both internally and externally, driving a brand that attracts new employees and retains value-aligned employees
• Strategically handles all change management with timely and efficient communication
• Knowledge and experience with HRIS systems is an asset
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
