Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to partner with TAG leadership to identify, mitigate, and reduce organizational risk across the full scope of employment-related compliance. This is an "HR Department of One" role, and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and comfort level with taking the initiative to identify, problem-solve, prioritize and make decisions to manage the HR function for the organization, in an independent role with minimal direction. This role manages the full employee lifecycle—talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, and performance management—while providing broad HR support across the organization.
Employee Relations & Risk Mitigation
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; review policies/practices, advise leaders on risk areas, and help execute proactive risk-reduction plans.
- Review, investigate, and resolve employee/applicant inquiries, including sensitive matters; ensure investigations, corrective actions, and performance documentation align with policy and legal requirements.
- Administer FMLA and non-FMLA leaves, including notifications and medical documentation, while coaching operational leaders on compliance.
- Support ADA compliance, including accommodation review, documentation, and leader coaching.
- Coach leaders on performance management, discipline, and terminations; promote best practices and consistency.
Track/document training and certification compliance (e.g., safety, anti-harassment, licensure, assessments). - Stay current on HR trends, employment law, regulatory changes, and new technologies; share relevant updates with leadership.
- Maintain neutrality, confidentiality, and organizational integrity.
Culture & Leadership Support
- Reinforce TAG Core Values throughout the employee lifecycle and support engagement initiatives.
- Coach leaders on structured interviewing and accountability conversations promote trust and accountability across the organization.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Own full-cycle recruiting: postings, screening, interview coordination, interviewing, and partnering with hiring managers on role requirements.
- Implement structured behavioral interview guides aligned to TAG Core Values; maintain candidate scorecards and documentation.
- Manage offers and compensation alignment; track hiring metrics (time-to-fill, retention, quality-of-hire).
- Deliver a strong candidate experience from offer through start date; oversee background/reference checks and I-9 employment eligibility verification.
- Complete onboarding administration, including HRIS data entry and auditing; help build structured 30-60-90 day onboarding plans.
HR Systems & Process Development
- Improve HR workflows; develop/update SOPs and stakeholder communications.
- Maintain recruiting/onboarding playbooks; build dashboards and reporting metrics, analyze results, and recommend improvements.
- Ensure consistency of HR practices across communities.
General HR & Administrative Support
- Coordinate onboarding tasks (Trello roster setup, IT access/email, Grace Hill LMS setup, benefits enrollment).
- Serve as a point of contact for HR questions (leaves, compensation, policies); may support compensation/benefits/payroll tasks as needed.
- Maintain employee files (electronic and paper) and perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation & Benefits
- The hiring pay range for this Exempt, individual contributor level position is $65,000 to $80,000. (commensurate with experience)
- Performance-based bonus eligibility
- Health, dental, vision insurance; eligible the first day of the first month after hire date

- This position is ON-SITE in Indianapolis, Indiana
Requirements
- 3–7+ years of HR Generalist experience in a small-to-mid-sized organization; preferably as a solo HR Practitioner; multifamily/property management preferred
- Confidence to operate as an independent HR department of one, with demonstrated experience with prioritizing and managing all aspects of the HR function with minimal day-to-day direction
- Strong knowledge of employment laws/regulations (ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, ADEA, etc.)
- Strong hands-on recruiting and onboarding experience (start to finish)
- Proven ability to manage complex employee relations matters with excellent judgment and confidentiality
- HRIS experience required (iSolved preferred); MS Office required; ability to learn tools such as Trello and LMS platforms (e.g., Grace Hill)
- HR certification preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM)
- Excellent communication skills, strong documentation/organization, analytical/problem-solving approach, and ability to build relationships at all levels
