At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare, well-being benefits, paid family leave as well as generous paid time off. Total Rewards also include banking perks, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K plan with company match and may include the opportunity to participate in our Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation plan. Incentives and benefits are subject to eligibility requirements.

Position Summary
The Human Resources Intern will support the HR Department by assisting with projects and initiatives across multiple HR disciplines, including HRIS, benefits, employee relations, recruitment, and HR operations. This internship provides a true generalist experience within a collaborative and dynamic environment. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to the bank's HR systems, policies, and processes while contributing to high-impact projects that enhance both employee experience and organizational efficiency.
Primary Accountabilities
- Support the HR team with the continuous improvement of Workday and related system processes.
- Assist with benefits communications and employee inquiries.
- Observe and support employee relations activities, including policy interpretation, coaching, and consulting with managers.
- Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and HR operations initiatives.
- Participate in the rollout of the financial wellness benefit program and related communications.
- Collaborate with HR team members across all functions to gain exposure to HR strategy and day-to-day operations.
- Participate in weekly check-ins and mentorship sessions with HR professionals to support skill development.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and contribute to a professional team environment.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources after graduation.
- Enjoys working with people both in person and via video communication.
Internship Details:
- Internship duration: Must be available mid-May through late July 2026.
- Schedule: Must be available MondayFriday, 8:00 a.m.5:00 p.m. (40 hours/week).
- Must reside locally and report to the Effingham, IL Corporate Office.
