Goucher College, a nationally recognized, selective, private, coeducational liberal arts college located just outside Baltimore in Towson, Maryland, invites applications for an innovative and strategic leader to serve as its next Associate Vice President for Human Resources (AVP). About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Operations/Chief Financial Officer, the AVP serves as the College’s chief human resources officer. This role provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all human resources functions, advancing a modern, responsive, and people-centered HR organization aligned with institutional priorities.
Scope of Responsibility
The AVP oversees the full employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, compensation and classification, workforce planning, learning and development, performance management, employee engagement, benefits and leave administration, employee and labor relations, HR systems and analytics, and compliance with applicable laws and policies.
Leadership Focus
The AVP will lead the development of a forward-looking talent strategy, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and support institutional decision-making. This leader will foster an inclusive, high-performing workforce, modernize HR systems and practices, and build a collaborative, service-oriented HR team.

Salary & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $175,000 – $180,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements
Qualifications
The successful candidate will bring significant progressive HR leadership experience, including supervision of professional staff and demonstrated success leading strategic initiatives and organizational change. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree, higher education experience, and professional certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build effective partnerships across the organization.
